Remember all the data collected in this database is second-hand! It is NOT a PRIMARY SOURCE.
You are strongly advised to seek out the original source to confirm / validate each record you find.
This may be in an archive like your local Records office or the The National Archives. Also online in places like Ancestry, Find My Past, or Family Search available in most libraries for free.

NOT Found what you're looking for.......help!
Unfortunately this could be for a multitude of reasons, which can be divided into ones we can do something about and those we can't!
.
Possible Solutions:
a] You may need to change your Search Criteria: Sometimes providing less detail increases the chance of a positive result ie less data to correctly match
b] You may need to use a Wild Card or Pattern Search: This allows you to replace single or groups of letters with a symbol where there may be spelling variations.
For both solutions please see Support/Search Tips
.
No solution at this time:
a] The data is not yet uploaded: We are constantly adding new data so do check back from time to time
b] The records are not available: Unfortunately not all records have survived the test of time, either being lost or destroyed.
c] The records have not been transcribed: Despite the SFHG working on Sussex records for 50+ years there remain many data sets that have yet to be transcribed.

In 1752 we changed from the Julian to Gregorian calendar meaning that the year started on 1st January rather than 25th March. You will see that in some records the dates will be 4th Feb 1750/1751. This means that it would be 1750 in the Julian calendar and 1751 in the Gregorian calendar.
Some records have been left as per the original document from which transcription was taken. If during your research you are unsure please refer to the original documents for clarification to enable you to use the methodology you are using in your research.
